Can God Really Help You?

      “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

We are told that our fight is not against flesh and blood (people) but against evil spiritual forces. Therefore we cannot fight with conventional or carnal weapons. We have to fight with spiritual weapons.

We have various military forces in this country. Before soldiers are sent into battle, they are taught how to use the various weapons at their disposal. They need to know how to use them and when to use them. Sometimes it may be appropriate to use a rifle and at other times a bomb. They are also taught the difference between offensive and defensive strategies. They are trained by experienced personnel, people who have themselves been trained and most likely been in battle.

The army would never dream of signing an 18 year old one day and sending him to a war zone to fight on the front line the next. Unfortunately this is what is happening to Christians. Many Christians are on the front line of a war zone without any training. They have no idea what weapons to use or how to use them. Many churches are ignoring spiritual warfare, leaving a shortage of people to train those who do want to learn.

Fortunately, the Bible is a training manual and help is available.
