Day 1
It Begins With Love
Understanding God’s love for you
The Bible tells us that the greatest thing in the world is love. Humans were created to love and be loved. Love is essential for our happiness and well being. Without love we have nothing. Love is the foundation upon which everything else is built. If you can get love right, a lot of other things will start falling into place.
Unfortunately we live in a fallen world and love goes wrong. We are brought up and surrounded by imperfect people. These people have their own issues and problems and make mistakes when caring for us. Many people have horror stories to tell regarding their childhood, but even good loving parents are not perfect. Neither are teachers, grandparents and other adults and children in our lives. By the time we reach adulthood our view of love is coloured by these imperfect relationships. Unfortunately the problem becomes worse. We ourselves are imperfect, and we form relationships with other imperfect adults.
Unless you have been incredibly lucky, you will have a distorted view of love. You have probably been hurt many times over the years. In response to this, you will have built walls around your heart to protect yourself. The problem with walls, as well as keeping others out, they keep you in. They stop you receiving and giving love. However, the desire for love is still there, so you seek it elsewhere.
The primary reason for problems with food, and consequently weight, arise out of a desire for love. There are many different aspects to this, and ways in which the problem manifests itself. We will deal with many of these as we progress, but for now, you need a revelation of God’s love.
You need to awaken to God’s love for you. His love is perfect. When you understand God’s love for you the walls begin to come down. You will begin to look for love in the right places, and you will begin to love in the right places. You will discover that this is not the biscuit tin.
How do we know God loves us? Because the Bible tells us so!
In what is probably the most famous scripture in the world, John 3:16, we are told that God loved the world so much that he sent his son to die for us so that we could have eternal life. Are you in the world? Yes is the answer! That means God loves you.
You need to get this. GOD LOVES YOU.
Go now and find the nearest mirror. Look in it and tell the person you see there that God loves them.
Go on, GO.
Did you do it? Good, now do it again. Go on, don’t you dare just sit there.
Good, now we are getting somewhere.
Today:
1) Every time you pass a mirror, or catch sight of your reflection, tell that person that God loves them.
2) Tell yourself ‘God loves me’ throughout the day. Whatever you are doing and wherever you are, say it. Say it out loud if you can, but if not, say it in your thoughts. Say it, think it, and say it.
3) Read I Corinthians 13. This tells us what the perfect love of God looks like. This is how God loves you. Reread this and reflect on it throughout the day.
P.S I love you too!!
Can God Really Help You?
